Life on
the
Road..
My Mom
stood
outside
the
Laundromat
waiting
for the
load to
finish
when a
family
drove up
and
parked
in
front.
They
took out
all
their
bags and
then
took out
a wheel
chair
and
helped
what I
assumed
to be
their
grown
son,
into the
chair.
It was
obvious
to Mom
he was a
quadriplegic.
The
Mother
wheeled
him over
beside
my Mom
and went
inside.
Well, if
you knew
my Mom,
this
would
not be
out of
her
character;
she
began
talking
with
this
fellow.
About
life,
about
being
handicapped
and
finally
she
asked
how it
happened…..
He said,
“When I
was 22
years
old I
was
driving
my car
and the
other
vehicle
coming
towards
me
swerved
to miss
a dog
that was
crossing
the
road.
And
instead
of
hitting
the dog
he hit
me…”
Then
there
was an
odd
silence,
and he
asked
Mom
"Would
you like
to know
the
moral of
the
story??"
And Mom
replied
“of
course,
yes”
"Hit the
F’in
dog!!"

Ballet
Blues
The
ballet
class
had just
finished,
and
thank
God. My
toes
were all
bloody
open
festering
blisters.
Outside
the hot
sun was
shining
and
there
was a
huge
gorgeous
tree
just
over the
grass
about 50
meters.
I
gingerly
took off
my
pointe
shoes to
feel the
cool
grass
under my
weary
feet,
not
realizing
that ½
hour
before,
the camp
gardener
had done
his job
by
spreading
dandelion
poison
and
fertilizer
all over
the
grounds.
As I
began to
run
through
the
grass my
toes
immediately
lit on
fire and
sent
intense
pain
shooting
through
my
entire
body.
There
was no
escape
…of
course I
had no
idea
why, but
I did
know
where
the camp
nurse
was and
made a
detour
across
the
grass in
lighting
speed to
the
first
aid hut.
“My feet
are on
fire” I
screamed
when I
tumbled
into the
hut.
From the
look on
my face
the
nurse
knew
that my
feet
were
truly on
fire!!!

SAFETY
WARNING
The
nurse at
the
admitting
desk sat
stunned
as Jack
explained
how Lucy
burned
both of
her
eyes. It
was a
simple
explanation
really,
but
something
I guess
she
never
thought
of when
she goes
to the
fair and
eats
fluffy,
seemingly
harmless
cotton
candy.
Lucy,
beginning
her
first
day on
the job,
listened
as her
boss
showed
her the
art of
making
sno
cones,
popcorn
and
cotton
candy.
She
didn’t
really
think
that
there
was much
to it.
After 4
years of
college,
she
didn’t
think
she had
to pay
much
attention
to his
advice
and
warnings.
She
didn’t
even
hear
when he
reminded
her as
he left,
to wear
the
safety
goggles
that he
put on
top of
the
sugar
bag..
she
waved
good bye
and
started
her
simple
task.
She
grabbed
the cup,
filled
it with
sugar
and
poured
it
in…well,
all the
severely
burning
hot
sugar
flew
into her
face…and
eyes…
you see
cotton
candy is
spun
sugar,
spun HOT
sugar.
That,
you see,
is how
she
burned
her face
and
eyes.

costume tips..... Sequin
Dance Fish Net
Stockings
Boa feathers
Foam Mascots
Never get soap on your
sequin. It will destroy
the color.
Stockings are expensive
so take care. When
putting them on turn
your rings into your
hands so you won't catch
the stockings. To
wash put your
stockings in a mesh bag
or pillow case .
SEWING SEQUINS TIP
-
Choose your thread wisely! Some beads (especially
bugle beads) that are used for sequined outfits,
and some sequins are very sharp, and with wear can
cut the thread! Be sure and go for the better
thread or nylon thread if you don’t mind working
with it.
-
When starting an outfit, make sure you have enough
of the color your using to finish the outfit. Some
sellers buy end lots of colors and there can be
hard to match if you run out (mostly for exotic
colors or hologram colors. ) Better to have
extra than not enough
